In the communication and data transmission technology, fibre optic cables are widely used. The well known advantages of these cables such as their insensitiveness against electromagnetic interferences their high band width and their low weight are usefull in the measuring and controlling technology as well.

In mechanical engineering, very often the problem occurs to transmit (measuring) data without disturbances. Interfering fields of other units and improper cable arrangements may disturb the transmission of sensitive data. Fibre optic/copper hybrid cables appear as an interesting solution for these cases. Copper cores may take care of power supply, while data can actually be transmitted by the fibre optic elements without any disturbance. For certain low cost applications, even PMMA-fibres can be used.

For special applications (high temperature, aggressive surrounding media etc.), these products can be provided with appropriate designs and materials.
